One November Day

Thanksgiving dinner, turkey and pie, Ma wants the breast, and Pa wants a thigh

Cranberries for Sis, jellied or whole, Brother likes taters, just hand him the bowl

Grandma likes dressing, cornbread’s the best, throw in the gizzards and mix with the rest

Grandpa likes squash topped with marshmallow fluff, as for me, I can’t stomach the stuff

Eggnog with whiskey the big table swigs, soon they’ll be snockered, and dancing a jig

One day in November when everyone tries, to love one another, without blackening some eyes

No fighting or feuding on Thanksgiving Day, wouldn’t it be nice if it were always that way

The moral of this, if a moral must be, give thanks for your family, you’re from the same tree
